Why pregnancy can feel so uncomfortable
Your body does an incredible amount of work during pregnancy. Your posture shifts forward, your pelvis widens, and a hormone called relaxin loosens the ligaments that normally hold everything stable. It’s all by design, but it doesn’t always feel great.
Lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, round ligament tension, sore hips and restless nights are some of the most common complaints we hear from expectant mums, especially from the second trimester onward. These things can make it hard to walk, sleep, pick up your toddler, or just get through the day.
That’s exactly what we see every week at Balnarring Chiropractic, and it’s exactly what we’re set up to help with. All care during pregnancy is gentle, specific to your stage, and adjusted as your body changes.

How chiropractic care may support you
What to expect at Balnarring Chiropractic
Your first visit starts with a thorough conversation about where you are in your pregnancy, what you’re experiencing, and what you’re hoping to get out of care. We always recommend staying in communication with your GP, midwife or obstetrician, and we’re happy to liaise with your obstetric team where appropriate.
Every mum and every pregnancy is different. We’ll be honest about whether we think we can help, and we’ll never recommend care you don’t need. Most expectant mums are in and out within 20 to 30 minutes, with easy parking right at the door.
Every care plan is tailored to you. By addressing areas of spinal and nervous system stress, chiropractic care aims to support your body’s natural ability to function, move and feel its best. If you have any questions, we’re always happy to talk through whether care is right for you.
Common questions.
Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?
Yes. All techniques used during pregnancy are gentle and modified for each trimester. We use pregnancy pillows and adjusted positioning so you’re comfortable at every stage, and we always recommend keeping your GP, midwife or obstetrician in the loop.
Is it safe for my baby?
Yes. There’s no direct pressure on your belly at any point. Techniques are gentle and specifically adapted for pregnant women. If there’s ever a reason care isn’t suitable for you, we’ll let you know and refer you appropriately.
What trimester can I start?
You can start at any stage. Some women come in during the first trimester, others not until the third when discomfort increases. There’s no wrong time to start.
Will it hurt?
No. Pregnancy adjustments are very gentle. Many women say it’s the most comfortable part of their week.
Do I have to lie on my stomach?
No. We use pregnancy pillows and modified positioning so you never have to lie face down. Most pregnancy care is done in a side-lying or seated position.
Does private health insurance cover it?
Yes, if your policy includes chiropractic cover. We have HICAPS on site so you can claim your rebate on the spot.
